U15’s Chichester vs. Worthing – By James Mapley (a players perspective)

On a rather fresh day, Worthing arrived at Chichester RFC welcomed by a blanket of frost nestling on top of the pitch. After the disappointing result against Brighton, the boys turned up for a fight, all 15 wearing scrum caps, which was a first! There was an added edge to this game, many felt they had a point to prove to their “ex” captain who defected to Chichester earlier in the season. more...

Worthing Under 15’s – League vs Lewes 3rd Oct 2010

Worthing opened their 2010/2011 League season away to Lewes. They had played Lewes two weeks earlier in a friendly and had beaten them convincingly, so morale amongst the team, coaching staff and parents was high. more...

Hove U15s 12 - 15 Worthing U15s

There’s a fine line in sport between could have, should have and would have, and so it was yesterday morning at a sunny Hove Park where Worthing took on Hove in their final league game of the season. Had Worthing lost this game and looked back they would see two Hove tries – one very contestable and one a breakaway against the run of play – and thought that their well-worked tries should have won. But our first try was equally as contestable as Hove’s first one, so honour was even. Unfortunately posterity doesn’t record whether tries were well worked, or against the run of play, or wrongly awarded - only what the final score was. I am sure that Hove will feel hard done by when they analyse and write their match report as we have been in the past. So the final tally is written into history, so does victory allow history to be written by the victors. Just. more...

Worthing U15s 0 – 32 Chichester U15s

Chichester turned up to this friendly with their A team and treated this game as a league match. Worthing didn’t. Chichester warmed up with focus. Worthing didn’t. Chichester actually turned up. And err .... Worthing didn’t.

Worthing were missing some key players and it showed. Although some patterns emerged, defensively in particular, there was a lack of bite and inventiveness in attack. Chichester were deserved winners after smart handling, good running lines, and well worked set-moves that led to their seven try haul.

Worthing get into top gear with zulu call

Flawless. That’s the only way to describe this Under 15 performance. Flawless.

Worthing U15s 7 – Crowborough U15s 20

Unbelievable. I really don’t believe it. My lucky notebook didn’t work today.
Without even a bonus point to show for all of the hard work this result leaves Worthing second from bottom. Like many of the games this season (and I also mean the other results in the league) there are no certain victories for some sides and not for others. There are no bonus points guaranteed or fairly distributed. And we did at least deserve the bonus point because this game was a lot closer than the score suggests. But hey ho, that’s sport.

Worthing 12 - Brighton 7

Well. What a morning. It’s time to wipe a tear from my misty eye and begin typing....
Let’s face it, Brighton are a good side. No, a great side at this age group. They have an aura about them – and deservedly so - because they are so used to winning. And winning well. Does this seem vaguely familiar and similar to a well known team that we all admire? So welcome to a cold, wintry, roadside pitch at Worthing where the All Blacks are taking on .... errr .... Tunisia?

Worthing U15 0 Heathfield U15 19

There was no faulting the ferocious commitment of the Worthing side as they came out all guns blazing in blustery conditions on Sunday. Right from the kick-off the commitment was obvious and Heathfield were taken aback by the intensity of the tackling and contact areas. With a strong wind behind them Worthing unfortunately didn't capitalise and the few long boomers that were made were insufficiently chased to create any real pressure. Considering the wet and windy conditions the overall skill levels were reasonably high but when mistakes were made by Worthing they were quickly pounced on by a confident Heathfield side. more...

Lessons Learned At Reeds

Reeds Weybridge U16 28pts Worthing U16 14pts

Reeds Weybridge U15 49pts Worthing U15 0pts
Two words best sum up the first friendly game of the season for this year’s Under 15s. Brutal and reality. Oh, and hot with hard grounds. Okay, that’s more than two, but when I have ever used the minimum words needed? As we travelled north the sun got brighter and brighter, and by the time that we had arrived in sunny Surrey the rays were positively beating down. Today was going to be hard work. Reeds have been runners-up in Surrey A for the last two seasons and this game was being used to test out our ‘higher league’ mentality as this would be the standard of opposition that we will be facing this year in Sussex A. more...
